Our dog training system, which is based on the positive reinforcement approach holds at its core that dogs learn best by being shown the expected behavior and reinforced for that behavior.  Unlike traditional dominance-based dog training that was considered in vogue until recently, positive training shows us that training does NOT have to come in the form of a reprimand or physical force.

Sandy Paws is committed to professional standards for our trainers, always committed to continuing education and membership in professional organizations.

Bryony Aviles

Owner, Head Dog Trainer

Bryony, Founder and Owner of Sandy Paws, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and a graduate (with honors) of the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy. She also serves as a mentor trainer for the Catch Canine Trainers Academy, educating trainers of the future. Bryony is educated in the Family Paws Parent Education program as well as The Family Dog program, both focused on helping families with dogs and children.

Bryony likes to refer to herself as a “recovering attorney,” having practiced law for over 5 years in Denver, CO. She left the practice of law behind when she and her husband moved back to the east coast, and took the opportunity to follow her dream of working full time with dogs.

Bryony has volunteered countless hours with local and state rescues and shelters, helping families find a perfect match for their family. Bryony also stays busy at home with her husband and their two young daughters, their senior black lab mix, Luna and 2 adopted kitties, Nugget and Neko.
